Mrs Bennett’s Bulletin, Monday 8 June 2020

Posted: 8th June 2020

Good Monday morning, Prep School,

Here we are at the beginning of another week – seriously, I know I say this each week, but where is the time going? We only have 4 ½ weeks left at school this academic year – that is only 23 school days! I am not sure how I/we am going to fit everything into this time!

I hope you have all had a great weekend. Mine was lovely! Arthur’s birthday celebrations didn’t go quite to plan due to non-stop rain, thunder storms and hail but we managed to get together in the garden, under a gazebo, and have our fish and chips! Arthur loved his cake, he said it was “The best cake in the world-ever!”. I am so pleased as I had been given strict instructions about it what he would like it to look like! It had to have a t-rex, the original green Thomas the Tank Engine (yes Thomas was green before he was blue – if anyone knows why he changed, I would love to know – I can’t seem to find this information anywhere) and the train Ashima on it! I have to say I am also pleased with the result! It’s only a few days since Arthur’s 5th birthday but he is now very excited for his 6th! He was over joyed with his presents – amongst his favourite was a book called ‘Poo in the Zoo’, high quality literature and hysterical for children and adults alike.

Other than this, it was a quiet weekend – we visited family to say hello and have a coffee in the garden, did the neighbours weekly shopping and caught up on some boring things that we have been putting off for a while – prime example – ironing! The highlight of the weekly shop was bumping into our best friends in the bread aisle of Sainsbury’s. It was so lovely to be able to see them face to face as we haven’t seen each other in the flesh since lockdown began. We are now planning a BBQ for next weekend, so fingers crossed it stops raining!

This week is super busy in school – we have our first virtual open day on Tuesday and I (and other Prep School staff) will be getting in touch with some of you to help me prepare something for this year’s Prize Giving! It isn’t going to be as it normally is due to lockdown and corona virus but it is still going to be fantastic! More on this in the coming days!

Please keep working hard this week, no matter if you are at home or in school. Continue to make us all proud of your efforts but more importantly, make yourself proud. You know where we are if you need any support academically or emotionally – parents, this goes out to you too! Remember, we are all in this together.

So each day I promised I would be sending you a life skill task to complete and also a joke, poem, picture, fact or reflection. Here we go for Monday 8th June:

Life skill of the day: Can you clean the shower or bath for your parents?

Day of the year themes: ‘Best Friends Day’, ‘World Ocean’s Day’, ‘Upsy Daisy Day’ and one I that I have carried over from yesterday ‘Chocolate Ice Cream Day’.

Thunk of the day: Remember, Thunks are unusual questions that are designed to make you think. There are no right or wrong answers -just your answer. The only rule is that you must be able to justify and explain your answer. You cannot just say the first thing that comes into your head. Really think about the question and discuss with your family!

Question: How many bricks is a wall??

TOPS activity of the week: This is a two-week task. . . Can you think of the seven continents of the world and identify a major landmark from each e.g. Europe – Buckingham Palace. Can you then recreate these landmarks? You could bake them, make out of Lego, paint, dress up as them, make out of toilet rolls. . . use your imagination, there are many house point on offer for anyone that can achieve this!

It can be an individual or a family effort. I would love to see these photos once you have done and I will share on social media!

Quote of the Day: “Don’t change so people will like you. Be yourself and the right people will love you.”

Joyous June calendar task: Write a letter to someone to thank them for what they have done.

Sleeps til Santa: 199

Have a lovely day,

Give it your best, no matter what you are doing!

Mrs Bennett 😊
