Symmetry in Transition

Posted: 21st May 2012

In Transition we have been reading all about The Hungry Caterpillar. We have found it fascinating that from a tiny egg, a caterpillar crawls out.

When he has grown up and eaten and eaten until he is fat, he makes a chrysalis to sleep in and then, as if by magic, when he wakes up he is a beautiful butterfly!

Following on from this we have been doing some mathematical activities about symmetry.

Butterflies are symmetrical (the same on both sides) but so are some other objects.

Using pictures and mirrors we have been investigating.

What fantastic fun!
