J4 Investigate Maths Outdoors

Posted: 14th March 2019

Highclare Preparatory School J4 pupils stepped outside of the classroom this week to investigate maths during their outdoor lesson.

Using what they could find in the playground and the Woodland Skills Area J4 pupils discovered that maths is all around, they created charts, mathematical sculptures, investigated the question ‘Can you create a perfectly symmetrical design using twigs?’, and used their estimation skills to calculate how far they would travel in 10 paces, 50 paces, 100 paces and more.  An excellent lesson bringing maths to life.
