Mrs Bennett’s Bulletin Tuesday 17 September 2024

Posted: 17th September 2024

Good morning, Prep School family,

I hope The Bulletin finds you well and relaxed after a wonderful weekend. I have had a busy weekend of trying to move house. We completed on our house in March and have had some work done on it in the last few months. I was hoping that we would be able to move in during the first few weeks of the summer holidays but no! With delays to contractors, radiators not arriving, deciding to take down a ceiling after an adult beverage or two and many other things out of our control – completion was delayed and we didn’t move in until the penultimate day of the holidays. As I am sure you all can appreciate, we are currently living in very unorganised chaos, amongst a hundred half emptied boxes not knowing where anything is. For those of you that know me, this is my worst nightmare. I like things tidy, organised and in their place. To top it all off, Mr Bennett hurt his back in the gym last week so our moving journey has not gone to plan. However, I am so grateful to have a beautiful house that I already love to its core and excited for months and months of sorting, donating, organising and making our own. This weekend got me thinking of what home actually is for people around the world. When we think of home do we automatically think of a building where we live? Do we think of communities that we are part of and flourish being with? Do we think of somewhere we feel safe, secure and happy to just be ourselves? Home means so many things for so many different people. A house is not automatically a home. I then started thinking about millions of people around the world who do not have a home. Those with nowhere to go at the end of a long day, nowhere to spend time with friends and loved ones and nowhere to feel safe and secure. So many people in the world don’t have a home right now. They may have been displaced by war, had to move due to drought or famine. Some people may have lost their homes through no fault of their own or had to leave their homes in a hurry to escape danger. Some people may have a physical house but due to loneliness or other circumstances it might not feel like a home. It made me so grateful that I have many places I can call home – my home, my dad’s house, my brother’s house and school. In all of these places, I am comfortable and am able to be myself, relax and have fun. In these places I can flourish, grow and make mistakes. I can learn and be nurtured. Imagine, just for a few moments, what life would be like if we did not have this luxury. . .

Quote of the week: “A beautiful day begins with a beautiful mindset.” – anon

Well-being tasks for this week: These are all based on self-care September. We need to learn to let go of the thought that self-care is selfish, it really isn’t – it’s essential to keep us well, thriving and achieving our best ion all areas of school life!  These tasks and ideas are good for all ages.

Tuesday 17 September – No plans day. Make time to slow down and be kind to yourself

Wednesday 18 September – Ask a trusted friend to tell you what strengths they see in you

Thursday 19 September – Notice how you are feeling

Friday 20 September – Enjoy looking at photos from a time with happy memories

Saturday 21 September – Don not compare yourself to others – be you

Sunday 22 September – Take time to stop, breathe and be still

Monday 23 September – Let go of other people’s expectations of you

Jokes of the week:

What did the left eye say to the right eye? Something between us smells!

Why did the clock go to the principal’s office?  For tocking too much.

What do you call a dishonest reptile? A crook-o-dile.

What do you call a bear with no teeth? A gummy bear.

What do you call a quiet laugh in Maui? Aloha.

Conversation starters:

What are the four things that your friends would say that you are really good at?

If you could pick to do one very nice thing to do for someone, what would it be and who would it before?

5 things that I am grateful for or looking forward to this week:

Can you try this simple exercise in gratitude and positivity?

  1. I am looking forward to ordering a blind – rock n roll.
  2. I am looking forward to catching up with my old deputy over coffee.
  3. I am looking forward to going for a long walk after school.
  4. I am grateful for the sunshine again this week.
  5. I am grateful for beautiful September sunrises.

Sleeps til Santa: 98 days. . .we are down to double digits

Have a wonderful week and enjoy the sunshine! It may not last for much longer!

With love,

Mrs Bennett
