Mrs Bennett’s Bulletin Thursday 9 April

Posted: 9th April 2024

Good morning, Prep School family,

I hope you are all well and relaxed after the Easter holidays. As per usual, I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to your children’s stories of the exciting adventures that they have all had over the break. I love the fact that the children all come bounding into school with beaming smiles on their faces, sharing their news and ready to embrace the new challenges that this term will bring.

This holiday has been a really strange one for me – it’s been one of extreme highs and extreme lows and I am very glad to be back at school for the routine and distractions that each day offers. I am looking forward to this term and all of the exciting things that we have planned for the Prep School. I am also finding it hard to believe that there are only 12 school weeks left until the summer holidays. . .that is only 58 days (minus yesterday and the May bank holiday!) – so much to do and seemingly such little time. This term will inevitably fly by and it will be the 5 July before we know it. As much as I love a countdown to things looking at the weeks like this is a sobering thought that time is ticking on and that we need to enjoy and embrace each day and every opportunity offered to us. As Nike say (within reason) Just Do it!

As you all know, kindness is one of the main things I want all of the children within the Prep School to be. Kindness is such a key human trait that is essential for our greater development. Kindness is the most powerful and useful of all social-emotional skills. Performing acts of kindness and generally being kind, has been proven to improve the well-being of the giver more than the well-being of the receiver. Kindness paves the way for all the other important social-emotional childhood skills to be more effective. I was reading a book over the holidays and this extract sprang out at me as it is so simple but so true.  I thought I would share it with you all.

“You never really know the true impact you have on those around you.

You never know how much someone needed that smile you gave them.

You never know how much your kindness turned someone’s life around.

You never know how much someone needed that long hug or deep conversation.

You never know how much of an impact that cup of tea had.

So don’t wait to be kind. Don’t wait for someone else to be kind first. Don’t wait for better circumstances or for someone to change.

Just be kind because you never, ever know how much someone needs it.”

Quote of the week: “Every star shines a little differently, shine bright and be proud.” – anon
