Mrs Bennett’s Bulletin Tuesday 20 June 2023

Posted: 20th June 2023

Good morning, Prep School family,

I hope that you are well and have had a great weekend. I had a lovely time. The Highclare 90th anniversary ball was fantastic on Saturday night. A super mix of parents, governors and staff who had all come together to celebrate the success of Highclare over the past 90 years. The wine was flowing, the music pumping, the photo booth full (and very efficiently run!) and the dance floor filled from the first song! I thoroughly enjoyed it and a huge thank you to the team who have spent months organising it.

It’s a very busy time in the Prep School this week with Teddy Bear’s picnics, graduations, Prize Giving, swimming galas, taster days at the Senior School, ISA competitions and stay and play sessions, to name but a few! All of these amazing events are so enjoyable but can be somewhat overwhelming in their quantity. I was driving to work yesterday morning, pondering the week ahead and I was beginning to panic about how I would fit everything in – how can I give all of the children, staff and parents the time that everyone deserves as well as doing everything we do on a daily basis on top. I got to school, pulled up in the car park and looked at a text message from a friend and it was screenshot of a Ben Fogle Instagram post (you all know I love a Ben Fogle post) and I thought it was perfect for this week. Thank you, Ben Fogle, I will try to follow your advice this week!

Don’t forget to enjoy the journey not just the destination.

Slow down and don’t forget to breathe.

Celebrate your quirks and your individuality. Follow your heart and nurture your creativity. Live in the now, don’t dwell on the past. Add life to your days, not days to your life.

Dream. Dare. Do.

Don’t live your life through someone else’s timeline. Live for bikes and hikes, not likes and swipes.

Some days you will feel down, the highs and lows are natural and human nature. Your life is filled with more light than shade. The ups and the downs remind us of what is really important.

Never take friends for granted. Fortune favours the brave. Live your life, Take risks. Be brave. Smile. Breathe. Love. Reflect.

But most importantly, enjoy each and every moment.

Quote of the week: “Life is a journey, though we walk our own paths, the kindness and encouragement we share along the way can light the path for others. Let’s choose to be the reason someone else believes in the beauty of their journey” – Anon

Well-being tasks for this week: Joyful June.

This month is all about us belonging to, and being part of, something bigger and all of the ways that we can connect with, and make a difference to, the world.

Tuesday 20 June – Rediscover and enjoy a childhood activity

Wednesday 21 June – Send a positive note of encouragement to a friend

Thursday 22 June – Watch something funny and enjoy how you feel when you laugh

Friday 23 June – Create a playlist of uplifting songs to listen to

Saturday 24 June – Bring to mind a favourite memory

Sunday 25 June – Show your appreciation to people who are helping others

Monday 26 June – Make some time to do something playful just for the fun of it

Jokes of the week:

What does a cloud wear under his raincoat?
Thunderwear!

What did the fisherman say to the magician?
Pick a cod, any cod.

What did the snowman say to the other snowman?
Do you smell carrots?

Why can’t Cinderella play soccer?
Because she’s always running away from the ball.

Why can’t you give Elsa a balloon?
She will Let It Go.

How does Darth Vader like his toast?
On the dark side.

Sleeps til Santa: 197 sleeps til Santa

5 things that I am grateful for or looking forward to this week:

Can you try this simple exercise in gratitude and positivity?

  1. I am looking forward to Prize Giving on Thursday evening.
  2. I am looking forward to having Amelie and Arthur to stay all weekend.
  3. I am looking forward to the Friends of Highclare School summer fayre.
  4. I am looking forward to the Swan’s (HPP) graduation.
  5. I am grateful for my portable fan – electric, not some random person that follows me around!!
  6. I am grateful for the sunshine but also the rain.

Have a super week and I cannot wait to celebrate with you all (Years 3-6) on Thursday night! I hope that you all have a great week filled with learning, fun and friendship.

Much love,

Mrs Bennett
