Mrs Bennett’s Bulletin, Tuesday 11 January 2022

Posted: 11th January 2022

Good morning, Prep School family,

I hope this first Bulletin of 2022 finds you well and ready for the week ahead. I cannot believe that we have all been back in school for a week already, where has that time gone – it will be half term before we know it!  An especially huge welcome to all of the new families that are joining our community this term. We hope you feel part of our Prep School family already.

Did you all have an amazing Christmas? I have loved listening to all of your stories about your Christmas holidays and I am so glad that many of you managed to spend time with family and friends. Our household managed to escape covid this Christmas and we had a lovely family celebration. The whole two weeks were filled with laughter, excitement, cheese eating and lots and lots of sleeping (except Christmas Eve, who can sleep when they are awaiting a visit from Father Christmas?). I feel blessed that I managed to make many special memories that I will treasure for years to come.

I would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year, I know I am a few days late and I have already spoken to many of you on the gate, but for those who I have missed and those whose paths I haven’t crossed yet this term, I hope it is one of wonder and happiness. I hope all of your dreams are fulfilled and that you are healthy and happy in the coming months. Have you set yourself any New Year resolutions? I decided this year that I wouldn’t set myself any ‘traditional’ resolutions such as going to the gym every single day, not eating chocolate or not having adult beverages on a school night as sometimes we are so unrealistic that we are setting ourselves up to fail. I don’t like this approach. I have decided that each day of the year I am going to do a random act of kindness. It can be anything throughout my day. The only stipulation I have set myself is that it cannot be something that I would do anyway, for example, open a door or say thank you. Apart from that the world of kindness is my oyster! I’ll keep you posted with my progress. Maybe one of my random acts of kindness may bestow you. . .

Quote of the week: “Just a reminder that you don’t have to make resolutions, or huge decisions or big proclamations. You can just set some sweet intentions and take each day as it comes.” – Victoria Erickson

Well-being tasks for this week: These tasks for are for a happier January. The best way to try to handle our difficult emotions and experiences is by focusing on what we can control. This month focus on small steps to try to boost happiness – for ourselves and others around us – to spread kindness and hopefully inspire others to do the same

Tuesday 11 January – Say thank you to someone for a kind act

Wednesday 12 January – Switch off all technology an hour before bedtime

Thursday 13 January – Eat healthy food

Friday 14 January – Sit quietly for 5 minutes and breathe

Saturday 15 January – Go outside and notice 5 beautiful things

Sunday 16 January – Contribute positively to your community

Monday 17 January – Be gentle with yourself if you make a mistake

Jokes of the week:

Why did the orange lose the race? It ran out of juice.

How you fix a broken pumpkin? With a pumpkin patch.

Why are fish so smart? They live in schools!

What’s the best thing about Switzerland? I don’t know, but the flag is a big plus!

Sleeps til Santa: 347 and counting

5 things that I am grateful for or looking forward to this week:

Can you try this simple exercise in gratitude and positivity?

  1. I am looking forward to reading my book on the sofa
  2. I am looking forward to meeting a friend for coffee
  3. I am looking forward to seeing family
  4. I am grateful for a happy Christmas
  5. I am grateful for car and heated seats!

Have a super week and enjoy the ever so slightly lighter evenings! It only gets better from here on in!

Stay safe and look after yourself and each other

Love from

Mrs Bennett
