Mrs Bennett’s Bulletin, Wednesday 24 June 2020

Posted: 24th June 2020

Good morning, wonderful Prep School family,

Welcome to Wednesday and again it is going to be a very, very hot day! According to the weather forecast on my phone it’s going to get up to 29 degrees. That’s hotter than Vancouver, Colorado, Skegness and Ibiza!

Please remember to drink lots of water, put sun cream on and wear a hat! Try and stay in the shade and stay out of the sun for long periods of time.

I have another story to share with you today. I like this one, a lot!

Mary is a little girl, who is shy and reserved. But she enjoys playing football more than anything in the world. Her friends and classmates ridicule Mary for her interest in the sport. Nonetheless, she is determined to pursue her passion and become a successful football player.

Every day, after returning from school, Mary quickly (but carefully!) finishes her homework and practices football. Her mother and father understand the love Mary has for the sport and support her in every way.

When the house competitions are announced at the school, Mary decides to participate. She takes part in the selection trials, and her classmates mock her once again. But they are shocked when Mary performs well and the judges select her to represent the school. Mary’s commitment and hard work mute every person who mocked her.

Moral of the story:

Determination, strong will, and focus can help you achieve even the toughest of goals, in spite of ridicule by others.

If you want to achieve something, go for it! It doesn’t matter what anyone else says. It’s your goal. Give it everything you can and you will succeed. My mum always used to say to me “If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again. If you still don’t succeed, try again, this time with more determination!”

Can you believe that in 2 weeks today, we will be finishing school for the summer holidays? I will write more about our plans for the end of term tomorrow! For now, I have to go and write my speech for Prize Giving! Wish me luck. . .

Life skill of the day: Can you strip your bed and change the sheets?

Day of the year themes: ‘Swim a Lap Day’, ‘Fairy Day’, ‘Upcycling Day’ and ‘Pralines Day’.

Thunk of the day: Remember, Thunks are unusual questions that are designed to make you think. There are no right or wrong answers -just your answer. The only rule is that you must be able to justify and explain your answer. You cannot just say the first thing that comes into your head. Really think about the question and discuss with your family!

Question: (Miss Jones!) When does loud start?

TOPS activity of the week:

Can you take a root vegetable and turn it into something else? For example – a potato into a super hero? A carrot into a Harry Potter wand? A turnip into an elephant? Be mega creative and use whatever you have with you! Please send me lots of photos!

Quote of the Day: “The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark.”-  Michelangelo Buonarroti

Joyous June calendar task: Thank a friend for the joy they bring into your life.

Sleeps til Santa: 184

Stay cool!
