The Highclare Senior School English department welcomed pupils, parents, grandparents and teachers to the annual Highclare Creative Writing Competition 2019 presentation evening.
This year students had been given the challenge to write a poem to celebrate 50 years since the moon landings in 1969. Mrs Dawson, Head of English, was very impressed with the entries. Students captured the excitement and drama of the event as well as showing a great deal of empathy for the astronauts who participated in Apollo 11. They had clearly learnt a great deal about the moon landings and were able to reflect this in their poetry.
Nearly 300 pupils from local junior schools entered the competition, with a large proportion attending the presentation evening , it was wonderful to celebrate so much local talent. Congratulations to all of those that took part particularly our overall winner Raniya Rahman of Mayfield Preparatory School.
