Senior School Prize Giving 2018 – 2019

Posted: 20th November 2019

Senior School Prize Giving  is always a much anticipated event on the school calendar and once again it proved to be a superb evening, an opportunity to reflect on the many wonderful events of the 2018-2019 academic year and celebrate and recognise students for their outstanding achievements.

Dr Luker presented a constant flow of accolades and achievements during his report of the academic year, that have culminated in a truly fantastic year at Highclare School. The evening highlighted academic trips, the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and the various charity work taking place across the school through speeches by current students Archie Moore, Ieva Modeliauskaite, Isabelle Dimascio and Jess Bonner.

Special thanks goes to our guest speaker Capt Katie Miller. It was a pleasure to welcome Katie to our celebration, a past Highclare Head Girl, who, after leaving Highclare in 2005, continued to achieve incredible things including a career as a professional yachtsman, competing in the 2009 Original Single Handed Transatlantic yacht race (spending 21 days alone at sea and becoming the youngest ever female finisher of this solo transatlantic yacht race), an officer in the Royal Military Police and currently serving at Royal Air Force College Cranwell as a Leadership Instructor to RAF officers in training. It was inspiring to hear how Katie’s experiences at Highclare, including the strength of identity she felt, filled her with confidence and determination to know she could achieve any goal.  It was a pleasure to hear how Katie believes her time at Highclare provided her with the tools to face every challenge met head on positively and with determination even to this day.

Throughout the evening Highclare String Ensemble, Rhapsody Chamber Choir, Jazz Band and Soloists performed  rousing performances of Adiemus (Karl Jenkins), Valerie (The Zutons), My Ship (Gershwin/Weill_) and Palladio (Karl Jenkins), a fantastic night was had and congratulations to all involved.
