Seven years before the action of the book is set, Anne Elliott breaks off her engagement to captain Frederick Wentworth under pressure from her family, as Wentworth had no ‘ancestry’ nor fortune. Anne however has never stopped loving Wentworth;  they encounter each other again when he returns to England after the Napoleonic wars.

One of Jane Austen’s later books, it gradually pulls you in. Thoughtful and romantic.



A tale of excess and obsession, Jay Gatsby’s Long Island mansion is host to magnificent parties set during the roaring twenties. But Gatsby himself, young, handsome and mysteriously rich, never appears to his guests. He stands apart from the crowd, yearning for something just out of reach – Daisy Buchanan. The pair finally reunite but meet with tragedy.
