Festival of Cultures at Highclare School

Posted: 15th August 2013

On Wednesday 9th July, the Senior School hosted its first ever Festival of Cultures during which parents, pupils, teachers and guests helped us to celebrate the diversity of our Highclare family, whilst raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust
The day began with the pupils taking part in a series of workshops and activities including Bollywood dancing, Samba drumming , cheerleading and martial arts.  Music and colour was everywhere on the day and the whole school resounded with the wonderful laughter of children enjoying themselves.
In the run up to the day, various House activities took place including the design of culture posters in English, Bindi hand designs in Art, Aboriginal art tiles in Textiles and a cake bake competition in HE. Pupils produced some wonderful designs and judging took place during the day, with winners receiving specially commissioned Highclare rosettes.
A big ‘thank-you’ must go out to our wonderful parents who supported the day by providing wonderful food depicting their own cultures.  We had a wonderful ‘multi-cultural’ tea party at the evening event and the tables were absolutely laden with the most delicious food we have ever seen (or tasted). The day and evening’s main event, however, was the wonderful Talent Show and I know that everyone will agree that we are blessed at Highclare with the most amazingly talented young people.      Mrs Moore, Head of Senior School
