Year 5 Science

Posted: 10th April 2012

Year 5 at the Abbey discovered that sounds are made when objects or materials vibrate during their Science lessons in the Junior Laboratory.

They did a battery of investigations with tuning forks, tuning forks in water, string telephones, guitars and milk bottles. They also designed their own investigations to discover how different materials absorbed sound.

Whilst investigating, the inquisitive scientists carefully measured the amounts of water they used .  This helped them reinforce, in a practical way, the work they had recently undertaken in Maths.

To finish, the experiments were written up with lots of colourful labelled diagrams, conclusions and ideas for further research.
