HIGHCLARE SCHOOL, ST PAUL’S
KEEP FIT, BE HEALTHY WEEK 17TH – 21ST JANUARY.
Pupils at one of Highclare School’s Infant and Junior Departments at Highclare St Paul’s in Lichfield Road, Sutton Coldfield, have been having great fun, “Shaking and Waking” every day during their ‘Keep Fit and Be Healthy Week’.
The themed week of extra activities within school was aimed at making everyone more aware about the issues around Keeping fit and staying healthy. The children learned how to ‘Grab 5-A-Day’ and read the ‘Traffic Light’ food labelling system during workshops by Mrs Lilwall.
Skipping sessions for everyone were set up to develop skills in coordination as well as the benefits of aerobic exercise.
Younger pupils in the Infants were taught the importance of ‘Healthy Hands’ by the school’s Nurse as she showed them how easy it is to ‘wash your hands’. They also enjoyed fruit tasting sessions.
A visitor to school, Andi Markham from Kids UK Trust, delivered a wonderful assembly on Health and Bullying with the assistance of his puppets, ‘ Grandad ‘ and ‘Jack’
At the end of the week, pupils took their ‘Shake and Wake’ road show to The Mall Shopping Centre, Sutton Coldfield passing on their message to local shoppers – some even joined in !
The week ended on a relaxing and High Note with all pupils taking part in a ‘YOGA’ workshop and enjoying a healthy ‘Fruity Friday.
