Visit to the Birmingham Royal Ballet

Posted: 23rd June 2015

Ten senior school pupils took part in a ballet workshop and tour of the Hippodrome Theatre. They were treated to a behind the scenes look at the props and costumes and met with the Lighting Engineer and Stage Manager who told the students about the complexities of setting up a BRB production.

The ballet workshop was wonderful but very strenuous and they were all made aware of the strength and endurance necessary to be a ballet dancer.  The group had lunch in the ‘Green Room’ and were delighted to be joined by members of the cast of ‘Carmina Burano’.  The students were also given a glimpse of a real rehearsal and were amazed by the beautiful costumes and masks that they were shown during their tour.

The production itself was magical as was the beautiful singing of Ex Cathedra who formed part of the chorus and added to overall artistic effect.    All in all, the day was fabulous and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
