SPORTS NEWS: AN EXTREMELY BUSY WEEK!   February 2009

BEDSTONE CROSS COUNTRY

Our best performance ever at this regional cross country event. Highclare won 3 of the 5 events and came runners up in the remaining 2 by a mere 2 points! 14 individual runners were selected to represent the Midlands at the Nationals held at Princethorpe College 3 days later.

NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY PRINCETHORPE COLLEGE

All 14 runners were able to compete this year and performed extremely well, despite still recovering from Bedstone 3 days

previously. There were 7 regions competing at this National event with 10 runners per region.

Highclare’s Stunning Summer Athletics Season - 2008

Summer Term 2008 has been a very successful season for Highclare’s athletes.

Taking part in the Junior Independent Schools Championships with 21 other schools Highlare were overall winners of the girls section while the boys were runners-up.

With 12 schools taking part in the Senior Independent Schools Championships the Highclare girls came a close 2nd and received the runners-up trophy.

13 pupils qualified for the Independent Schools ‘National’ Athletic Championships at The Alexander Stadium which resulted in gaining 13 individual medals for the Midland team.

Locally in Sutton Coldfield our senior team took part with the Sutton Schools at Wyndley with an excellent result.

The year 7 athletes were 1st as were year 8. Year 9 athletes were runners-up while year 10/11 were again winners. As a result Highclare became Sutton Coldfield champions by a wide margin.

6 Highclare girls won national honours by winning 15 gold and 1 silver medals between them at the ISA National Gala at Coventry recently. As part of the Midlands team the girls were also pleased to be runners up by only 1 point behind the London West team.

HIGHCLARE ARE MIDLANDS SWIMMING CHAMPIONS - November 2007

Girls at Highclare’s  Junior and Senior School had a fantastic week in the pool, competing at the Independent School’s Regional Gala.

Highclare Senior School clinched the overall title with Year 7 and the Year 9 /10 teams both receiving the year group Winners Trophy, supported by the Year 8 and Year 11 teams who claimed vital points to declare Highclare’ s Senior Swimming Squad, Independent Schools “Midlands Champions” by a margin of 58 points.

In a field of 20 schools, the Junior Girls continued the winning streak claiming the overall ‘Runners Up’ position, the Highclare Year 5 girls winning their year group trophy, Year 6’s finishing 3rd overall and the Year 4’s midtable.

Eight swimmers from both squads now go on to represent the Midlands at the ISA National event being held at Coventry on 17th November.

The standard of swimming was extremely high at both galas and Highclare put in some outstanding performances to claim their titles.

  • 11 pupils selected to represent the Midlands at the ISA Nationals, where they collected 6 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals between them and helped Midlands to 3rd overall.
