Come on and Celebrate
Pupil’s at Highclare School in Erdington, enjoyed an evening of celebration, on Friday (20th November) when they held their annual Senior School Prize Giving and Speech Night, at the Ramada Penns Hall Hotel in Walmley.
Some very special awards were given to celebrate the many different achievements gained in sport, music, drama and, of course, excellent exam success at both GCSE and A level. Prizes and certificates were presented by guest of honour, Suzanne Virdee, a journalist and news presenter with BBC Midlands Today
Suzanne spoke to parents and pupils about her ambition to become a journalist and her determination to achieve her goal in life, as well as her success in her chosen career. Her lively enthusiasm for her job and education entertained both pupils and parents.
Margaret Viles, Headmistress, said “The evening is about celebrating the success and achievements of every one of our pupils. Opportunities to shine in many different ways abound at Highclare School. We are especially proud of our Senior Girls and our Boys and Girls in our Sixth Form. Their exam results of 100% pass at GCSE and 100% pass at A2 level last year are definitely something to be proud of, and we continue to motivate each and every pupil towards achieving their own individual excellence”
Highclare School constantly strives to offer relevant and meaningful qualifications in Information Technology and pupils in Year 11 were able to celebrate their success in gaining all 8 modules of the popular ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) qualification.
One of the highlights of the evening was the award of the Miller Cup, presented to the pupil who has, in the face of great adversity, achieved great success and this year the cup was awarded to Frances Bridgens. Frances has undergone a series of operations and has always kept up with her work and most importantly remained cheerful throughout her ordeal.
Highclare School, based in Erdington, with easy transport links to all parts of Birmingham and surrounding areas, now looks forward to welcoming new students into Senior School and Sixth Form in September 2010. Scholarship assessments take place in January.
