HIGHCLARE PUPILS CELEBRATE SUCCESS WITH ECDL

As a new centre for delivering the European Computer Driving Licence qualification, Highclare School in Erdington, is celebrating the success of its first pupils.

In 2006 the decision was taken to implement an ECDL programme to replace the Short Course GCSE in IT.  Mrs Geddes, Head of Senior IT at the school already had experience of teaching ECDL to adults and felt it was the perfect choice as the core ICT provision for senior girls at the school.  “The ECDL has definite advantages over the GCSE as it is more skills based and its modular structure means it can easily be integrated into the school curriculum” said Mrs Geddes.

The ECDL course is very flexible in the way it can be presented.   Pupils enjoy using the computer based materials and on-line tests with instant results but paper based practical tasks can be introduced to meet the various learning styles.   Parents in the business world recognise the importance of an internationally recognised IT qualification.

The first group of Highclare girls have now completed the course with excellent results.   They started the course in September 2007 and in only 28 weeks 19 girls achieved all 8 modules.   The remaining girls only have one or two modules to complete in the remaining weeks of the term.
