HIGHCLARE’ RUN OF SUCCESS

March 2010

ISA Netball

ISA Netball teams with their winning medals

Girls at Highclare School, The Abbey, both Juniors and Seniors, have had a tremendous run of sporting success over the last few weeks. This started on 3rd February at the Independent School’s Association Regional Cross Country meeting at Bedstone School. From an entry of 15 schools Highclare’s teams at U12 and U14 came 5th, at U18 came 3rd and at U16 came 1st overall. 9 individual girls were in the top 10 selected to represent the Midlands Region in the National finals.

Success did not stop there. At the National final held at Princethorpe School on 26th February some amazing individual performances saw Niamh O’Dowd and Lydia Sergiew gaining 6th places and Georgia Batchelor a 7th, strongly supported by Bethany Roberts, 19th and Emily Smith 19th, helping the Midlands team to a worthy Runner up position. There were 70 runners in all on the day.

Along side this Highclare School came home with the runners-up trophy at the Sutton Schools Junior Swimming Gala on 27th February. This was achieved with 3 first places from Aman Hayre, Alice Johnson and Ella Feaunati, and 2 third places from Georgia Batchelor and Pheobe Abbott.

The run of success was established further this weekend (6th March) when the girls took part in the Independent School’s Association Regional Netball Tournament at Shifnall, with the U16 team gaining runner up position and the U14 team taking the Winners podium.

Additionally the U13 Hockey team remain unbeaten in the league so far, with only two more matches to play, so all are hopeful of further success.
