Politics Challenge Day at Aston University

Posted: 1st May 2015

Ten L4 students took part in the first ever Politics Challenge Day at Aston University.  The students took part in a variety of politically themed quizzes and activities.  They worked in teams of five, in order to create a new political party: name, logo, posters, leaflets, placards, badges and rosettes.  Each team presented their ideas to four other school teams, and the Highclare teams exhibited tremendous oral skills, confidence and persuasive techniques within their presentations.  Additionally, the students had the opportunity to visit Aston University and to speak to some of its students.
One of our teams gained second place in their group and another team gained first place.  The team that won in their group then had to present their ideas to at least one hundred students, around 20 staff and a Professor of Politics.  There was an overall winner as in any political system, however, there were no placements for second, third or fourth.  One of our school teams gained a ‘top spot’ as one of the four ‘top’ teams out of twenty from a range of Birmingham schools.

The students received many compliments about their positive attitude, exemplary behaviour and excellent team work.  Well done to them all.
