IISA Regional Football Finals.

Under 9's

In keeping with tradition our Year 4 team, assisted by some year 3's, reached the final of this Independent School’s Association Midland Region competition.   The place in the final was gained after some great goalkeeping heroics from Nathan Lawrence in the Semi-Final.

During the group stages our boysplayed the kind of football we all like to see. Captain Kurtis Clarke, led by example, with his team following his lead and giving outstanding performances throughout and non more so than that given by Daniel Hurst.  Well done to the other members of the team, Jack Wiseman, Gursahib Bal, Morgan McSheffrey and Kai Knight.

Under 11's

Yet again our year 6 team has reached the National finals. During the group stages we played wonderful football and were by far the best team at the event, departing the competition after losing the semi final on penalties. Benny Watson, Matthew Brain, Ryan Tamana, Dhruv Kaul, Cameron Gregory and Thomas West all played some excellent football.  However, special mention must go to Charlie Perry-Osborne for his player of the tournament performance.

A big ‘Thank you’ goes  to all the parents who came along to support the teams, their support as ever was much appreciated by staff and pupils.

Sutton Coldfield Schools’  Knock Out Cup -  2nd Round

In the next round of this annual competition the school was drawn against Coppice School on Friday 16th October, and the match was played at Highclare’s Abbey site at Sutton Road, Erdington.   A great result for Highclare was:

Highclare 6 v Coppice 2

The Knock Out Cup was the only competition our year 6 team lost a game in last season and  as most of that  team are still with us this season, for the boys concerned it added just a little more spice to this game.

Starting to play well from the first whistle, two early goals from Dhruv Kaul and Benny Watson left, what is a strong, Coppice team rocking. It was therefore not surprising when Benny completed his hat-trick before half time. Second half goals from Matthew Brain and Harry Morris secured the game despite a spirited fight back by Coppice leaving the final score 6-2.

Well done Highclare!.

Sutton Schools Football League 2009-10

9th October

Banners Gate 0 Highclare 10

Our year six team began this season’s campaign in style with a ten goal win !.

Highclare managed an amazing 9 goals in the first half, from Benny Watson (4), DhruvKaul (3) and Matthew Brain (2), leaving Banners Gate more than a little shocked. However the second half, surprisingly, was a different story. Whilst Tommy West added to the score line Banners Gate made a real contest of the second half causing real problems to our defenders. Ten - nil sounds far more convincing than the realityconsideringthe game overall.  However, not only did we have a moral boosting score line but also a tough game.

football News - April 2009

Sutton Coldfield 1 Halas 1 (after extra Time) Sutton won 1-0 on Penalties   23rd April

Seven Highclare boys represented Sutton Coldfield in the Final of the Jimmy Mullen (Year 5) 5 a side tournament on Molineux the, the home of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club, on Thursday evening.

Having won the group stages a few weeks ago the team, which contained only Highclare boys, found themselves playing on the now Premiership pitch. In an extremely close game played at a very high standard Sutton were behind half way through the game. Oscar Chubb, our goalkeeper, who played very well throughout the game could do nothing about the deflected shot which dropped under his bar. The whole team continued to play well creating chances and having to deal with some great play by Halas. With just ten seconds left on the clock, captain, Benny Watson curled his shot into the top far corner of the goal from the left touchline. Extra time proved to be exciting but the score remained the same. In sudden death penalties Oscar Chubb saved Halas's first attempt and when Benny Watson step up to score the large trophy, Presented by Mrs. Mullen, was on its way to Highclare.  The team in addition to those already mentioned included Matthew Brain, Charlie Perry-Osbourne, Harry Morris, Dhruv Kaul and Ryan Tamana. Tom West played in the group Stages but was unavailable for the final.

HMS Birmingham Vase Football final Played at Bodymoor Heath Monday 27th April 2009.

Highclare 11 Hillstone 1

After both teams were presented to the Deputy Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Highclare players were introduced by our captain Alex Howell, on a cold wet evening. Our team of Alex Howell, Reece Davis, Cairo Brooks-Hoo, Jennings Fantini, Jack Bickley, Benny Watson, Matthew Brain, Charlie Perry-Osbourne, Dhruv Kaul, Ryan Tamana and Harry Morris set about producing an excellent display of football which demolished a strong opposition. Hillstone came into the final after several 7 plus goal wins they gave Highclare a good game in the first half and when the score was 2-1 we thought we were looking towards a close finish. As the rain stopped it was not just the Sun that began to shine. Hat tricks from Reece Davis, Dhruv Kaul and Benny Watson with further goals from Charlie Perry-Osbourne and Cairo Brooks-Hoo ensured the trophy, for the biggest single form entry schools competition in Birmingham, spends the next year in Highclare bulging Trophy cabinet.

ST PAUL’S FOOTBALL REPORT - MAY 2009

Sutton Coldfield year 5. Football Tournament  8.05.09

Sixteen  Sutton schools entered this annual competition held at Lindridge Road. Played at the end of the season it gives all schools the opportunity to look at next years main (year 6) team.

Winning our group which included  three strong teams Little Aston, Shrubbery and Banners Gate. We played Maney Hill in the Semi Final. All games were tight close games but by keeping a clean sheet all evening Oscar Chubb, in goal, gave us the best opportunity to win. Five wins, all by the odd goal, including a great goal from Benny Watson in the final against Four Oaks put another trophy in the cabinet at Highclare, Dhruv Kaul found the net with support from Matthew Brain, Harry Morris, Harry Craven Jones, Ben Green, Ryan Tamana and Charlie Perry-Osbourne. We can look forward to next year with confidence.
